Back to School with Finale 2010
The world’s leading music notation software is now even more accessible.
With the Australian Dollar strengthening and the G.F.C. easing, Finale has been able to drop
retail prices across their entire range. Making the worlds best notation software even more accessible.
To celebrate the New Year – Finale are offering a ‘back to
school’ special, giving you the chance to upgrade to the latest version at the best possible price.
Also this month, the Finale User Spotlight shines on famous Australian composer Matthew Hindson and his
experiences with Finale.

Finale 2010 is fully compatible with VST/AU plug-ins.
This means that when you are using Finale 2010 in conjunction with programs like Cakewalk’s
Sonar Home Studio or Sonar Producer, you can use all the effects and instruments that come with Sonar and
plug them into Finale. The result is high quality instrument sounds for playback and extra mixing options
from your favourite notation software.

In a short space of time Matthew Hindson (b. Wollongong, 1968) has
emerged as the leading Australian composer of his generation. Performed by all the major orchestras of his
native country, his music is now finding a global audience.
The effect of his invigorating sound world is immediate and direct. It provokes strong reactions,
frequently causing divisions between audience reaction and critical opinion.
“I've been using Finale since 1991 and am still discovering new and powerful ways to get what I
want. It is this combination of flexibility and sheer power that I find really useful. Finale is a real
creativity and productivity enhancement.” Matthew Hindson
Q. What do you mainly use Finale for?
I use Finale for the process of composition, and also for producing the
final engraved scores and parts.
Q. What is your preferred note entry method?
Speedy Entry all the way, with a MIDI keyboard. It's quick, powerful and intuitive.
Q. What features do you find most useful in Finale?
One of the great strengths of Finale is in its ability to adapt to
users' way of working - so for entering notes, I select the pitch and then enter the rhythm, just like
when writing on a score. If you don't want to do it this way, try other ways. It's this flexibility that
I believe is unparalleled at the present time.
Q. What advice do you have for other Finale users?
There is always a way to do just about anything you want - if you can't
find it in the excellent manuals, get online onto the Finale user forums or subscribe to the Finale
mailing list. I would also say that it helps to be fussy with score presentation, and Finale can
customise the look of a score to whatever you require to give your music that individual touch.
